About

Dymatize Elite Casein is a great product that stands out in two ways; the first way elite casein stands out is in value! Dymatize is one of the lowest priced protein powders that includes micellar casein listed as its first ingredient. When it comes to finding the longest lasting protein, micellar casein is top of the line and takes the longest out of any other protein type to digest.

The second way elite casein stands out is in sodium content; many similar products such as Optimum Nutrition's casein will contain up to 300mg of sodium, but Dymatize kept sodium levels at only 180mg per serving which is important for those concerned about water retention for medical or aesthetic reasons.

Overall Dymatize has created a great product at a really good value. This protein will last in the body for a very long time making it perfect for taking before bed.

Micellar casein is one of the thickest and hardest to mix protein powders on the market. Mixing this product by spoon in water will often result in many clumps; it is best to mix it in a blender.

 Taste  4 Star Rating

Based upon reviews most people enjoy the taste of Elite casein protein. But keep in mind that casein products generally do not taste as good (to most people) as whey.

Ingredients

Micellar Casein - See Protein Type Guide
Sunflower Oil - Highly nutritious and considered to be a super food; sunflower powder contains a great amount of protein and fiber.
Maltodextrin - A type of sugar that helps to thicken the product it is used in.
Sunflower Lecithin - A non-toxic additive to food that helps ingredients mix together better and improves shelf life.
Sodium Citrate - Acts as an acidity regulator in drinks and helps ingredients to blend together better.
Mono & Diglycerides - Helps ingredients blend together.
Tocopherols - Vitamin E.
Calcium Phosphate - Calcium.
Dark Cocoa(Processed with Alkali) - There are two main ways to extract cocoa powder out of beans. One way is called "The Broma Process" and the other is called "The Dutch Process" or "cocoa processed with Alkali" both processes are completely safe; the main difference is that the alkali method tends to be smoother and less bitter.
Cellulose Gum - Indigestible food that passes through your digestive system without being absorbed. It is used to add more bulk and texture to the protein shake.
Xanthan Gum - A carbohydrate/fiber that creates a more pleasing texture to the protein shake and helps keep ingredients blended together.
Sucralose - Artificial calorie-free sugar substitute.
Acesulfame Potassium - Artificial calorie-free sugar substitute.
Protease - An enzyme that will hydrolyze (breakdown) proteins into small pieces which leads to better digestion.
Lactase - Essential to the complete digestion of whole milk. Lactase breaks down lactose, which makes dairy products "lactose free".
Lipase - Enzyme that helps the body to digest dietary fat.
Other Ingredients - Natural and artificial flavors, salt, potassium

When to use

Specific times

Micellar Casein digests extremely slow and can last in the body for up to 7 or 8 hours! The best time to take this protein would be right before bed when the body has to go without protein for a long time. Another great time to take this supplement would be when a person knows there will be an extended period of time that they will not have any food to eat.

General times

Casein protein can be taken at just about any time during the day, it is great for taking in the morning or afternoon to last you through most of the day, and ultimately superior during the night right before bed.

When to use a different type of protein

Although Casein protein is great for taking any time during the day, taking a faster digesting protein would be beneficial immediately following strenuous exercise. This is because the body has a short period of time in which it will absorb and use protein rapidly and feeding your body with a fast digesting protein (such as whey) will provide much better results during this short window!
